Labor: A Good Workout!

Your labor should be more the reflection of a good workout rather than a fear-based, painful experience. When you lift a weight or do intense aerobics you generally create a "burn" in your muscles. Even though it may feel "painful" and you may need to "shake the pain out" your perspective of pain in that moment is positive! In fact you actually pick the weight up again to create more "pain" knowing you are either burning fat or building muscle. Because the element of fear is not present, your body naturally releases endorphins and you are filled with a rush of positive feelings. If you were to describe your workout you would probably say you had a really intense workout and it felt great. Amazingly, the description of your workout is based on the amount of pain you experienced. No one says "I had the best workout today-- it was so painful!" In fact, if you didn't feel any work being done you would probably describe your workout as poor. i.e. "I had a terrible workout today--there was no pain!"

Why should labor be any different?

Have you ever heard women talk about their births as though they were on a romantic date? These women can naturally release their fear and fill themselves with endorphins. Their response to each contraction is described as a surge, positively moving them toward the birth of their baby. Though it may feel intense and they are working hard, their experience is stronger surges and more progression. By intuitively staying relaxed and focused these women create faster, easier labors. They are described by their family, friends, and medical support as being "lucky" or genetically built for labor

Every woman is lucky and genetically built for labor!

By simply changing your mind about birth you can leave the description of a painful labor to someone else. Using daily relaxation exercises designed to eliminate the presence of catecholamines, you can learn how to access the kind of birth only those "lucky" few can seem to achieve.
